Be The Motherhood Village was born out of a shared passion to provide intentional and inclusive support for families. Recognizing the gaps in maternal care, particularly for marginalized communities, Daneita and Jahlisa combined their experience and vision to create a village rooted in advocacy, education, and compassion.
Our story is one of resilience, collaboration, and commitment to improving maternal health outcomes by addressing the social, emotional, and physical needs of families during the perinatal period.
Our mission is to redefine and restore the concept of a village by providing holistic, inclusive, and culturally competent maternal support services. We are committed to improving maternal and infant health outcomes by empowering families with education, advocacy, and resources throughout the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood.
We envision a world where every parent feels supported, affirmed, and empowered as they transition into parenthood. By fostering community, connection, and education, we aim to create a thriving network of families who feel equipped and inspired to care for themselves and their children.
A village is more than a place—it is a network of people who come together to uplift, support, and nurture each other. Historically, villages have been the foundation of child-rearing and community care, where everyone contributes to the well-being of families. At Be The Motherhood Village, we embrace this tradition by creating a modern-day village that fosters connection, trust, and shared responsibility, ensuring no parent feels isolated or unsupported.
Welcome to Be The Motherhood Village, where affirmation, encouragement, and community thrive. Founded by Daneita Blalock-Hudson and Jahlisa Murphy, we are dedicated to redefining the concept of traditional village support for prenatal and postpartum families, particularly within marginalized communities in Illinois, with a focus on Chicago and its surrounding areas.
Daneita Blalock-Hudson is a mom, foster/adopted parent, entrepreneur, community advocate, doula, and student midwife. With over seven years of experience, Daneita has impacted the lives of more than 150 families, babies, and births. Through her business, 4theJourney Birth & Postpartum Services, she provides education, empowerment, advocacy, and community resources to families facing challenges such as teen pregnancy, advanced maternal age, disabilities, infertility, and adoption. Daneita's vision for Be The Motherhood Village is to create an authentic space where parenthood is celebrated and supported.
Jahlisa Murphy, affectionately known as "Tete Doula," is a passionate birth doula with a background in social work. As a foster care alumna and professional auntie to over 30 nieces and nephews, Jahlisa brings her nurturing spirit and expertise to empower families. Her mission is to provide exceptional emotional and physical support to parents-to-be and their families during childbirth and beyond.
Together, Daneita and Jahlisa founded Be The Motherhood Village to create a space where diversity, connection, and mutual aid are celebrated.
